Brisbane/SEQ General Information
The city of Brisbane is Australia’s fastest growing municipality.
According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics’ (ABS) 2008 Census,
its population currently stands at more than 1.95 million. The
surrounding Brisbane region is the second fastest-growing urban area in
the western world.
The Queensland State Government has developed the South East Queensland
Regional Plan, which provides policy and guidance on proposed
infrastructure and housing development. The Regional Plan prescribes
higher density housing in select areas to reduce travel demands,
thereby reducing energy usage and emission of pollutants.
Transit Oriented Development is a concept adopted by the Regional
Plan which advocates building communities around public transport nodes
to provide a diverse mix of housing, employment and high quality
community facilities with easy pedestrian and cycle access. These
communities are dynamic hubs of activity offering entertainment,
restaurants, shops, gyms, childcare facilities, workplaces and housing.
Indooroopilly,
7 km west of Brisbane’s CBD, has been identified as one
such community.
